Kryptonite is a substance from Superman’s home planet. When he drew near to it, he would lose all his superpowers and become weak even weaker than a normal man
So my question is, what is your kryptonite? I know what mine is. I think I have more than one, what is yours? Is it doubt, insecurity, porn, jealously, anger, self-sabotage, procrastination, lying, stealing etc. It can be anything! But one thing that is for sure is that sin is our universal kryptonite, as you may have already noticed, the theme that runs across the potential kryptonites mentioned above is the fact that they are different forms of sin.
WHAT IS SIN?
Sin is essentially when we fall short of God’s standards (Romans 3:23) because we are still conditioned to carry out sinful earthly acts that lurk within us (Colossians 3:5-6). This then leads to separation from Christ (Isaiah 59:2).
Sometimes, us Christians set ourselves. Let’s pause here, have you noticed that I said “set ourselves” unrealistic goals where we deceive ourselves into thinking that we can fight against sin alone. Without the help of others and even without the help of God. Yeah, I know. Crazy right? But it’s true, we do this by hiding and denying the fact that we are living in sin. We forget that God knows everything and that even though he has the right to do so, he won’t judge us. Instead, because we are so ashamed and begin to judge ourselves and eventually believe that everyone else will follow suit. As a result, we continue to live in our shame whereas the kryptonite remains, intensifies and becomes a bigger binding problem.
People who conceal their sins will not prosper; but if they confess and turn from them they will receive mercy (Proverbs 28:13)
Look at yourself, and be honest. Don’t lie to yourself. Respect yourself enough and be real. Recognise your faults because the most damaging thing you can ever do is ignore your kryptonite because this will make you weaker. Instead, acknowledge your kryptonite and if you can’t tell anyone else tell God. He is always there to listen and help you work through it. The first step to overcoming and killing these kryptonites is to acknowledge and recognise them, and we can figure it out from there.
I’m currently going through a 12-day bible plan by John Bevere called ‘Killing Kryptonite’. And it has been a great eye opener so far. I have reflected and discovered what my kryptonites are. However, I am not brave enough to share them just yet because I’m still working on them. Nevertheless, I will share them all one day!
So the take home message for this post is “What is your kryptonite?”. And from here we will learn how to kill these kryptonites so that we can be the effective, strong and courageous men and women God called and created us to be.
